One of British Columbia’s most elusive and fabled ferry routes is through the 507-km (315-mile) stretch of water known as the Inside Passage. This sliver of ocean water runs between the mainland and a series of islands, and offers a sheltered look at some of BC’s most isolated coastline.

The route is popular as a way to reach Prince Rupert, where ferries leave for Haida Gwaii and Alaska.

The BC Ferries vessel (you will board either the Northern Adventure or the Northern Expedition) leaves from Port Hardy on the northern end of Vancouver Island. The boat arrives about 15 hours later in Prince Rupert, via the Inside Passage.
