Arrive hungry at the Vancouver Christmas Market. Though the German-style market has tree ornaments and gift items aplenty, it's the smell of cinnamon and waffles that really drew me in.
I recently walked around the small but spirited market simply following delicious wafts of barbecued sausages, smoking salmon, baked apples, fresh pastries, and hot chocolate.
The market is all about ambiance, with pretty holiday lights and school bands play plodding holiday carols at the central bandstand. Shopping-wise, you'll find varied stalls selling Polish pottery, German embroidery, and South American alpaca clothing, as well as extensive collections of Christmas tree ornaments. There's also a fun, if bumpy, carousel that's open to all ages.
I'll be going back again next week (hungrier this time) as tickets include re-entry for the rest of the season. And while I may cross a few things off my holiday list, I can't wait to sample some of the food!
